Someone asked me recently what I like about being a funeral celebrant (with an air of isn't it depressing?) My immediate answer is I like hearing about people's lives and meeting their family and friends.
I love getting the story and honing it for the ceremony, drawing out the key elements of the deceased person's life and regardless of their achievements, the core of who they were. Some people have big careers, families, wealth, travel etc. Many don't. However simple or complicated lives are, there is always a unique story to share. It's my job to celebrate that.
